Convergence in the Digital Age
European Commission
In August 1998, an international seminar on collaboration between cultural and memory institutions was held in Amsterdam on the occasion of the IFLA Conference. Organised by TNO, the event was supported by the European Commission under its Telematics for Libraries programme.
This seminar set out to examine the common interests of archives, libraries and museums as they increasingly adopt new approaches based on the integration of electronic media into their services and activities. Indeed, all these organisations now face issues of digitisation, archiving, preservation and new relationships with their users and they all need to look at appropriate economic models which take account of legal and regulatory constraints..
